چکیده
Abstract We study the present-day connection between galaxy morphology and angular momentum using D ark S age semi-analytic model of formation. For a given stellar mass in range 10 –10 12 M ⊙ , predicts that galaxies with more prominent disks exhibit higher disk specific ( j stellar, disk ). However, when we include gas disk, bulge-dominated have highest total total, disk attribute this to large contribution from an extended cold typical galaxies. Note while momenta = J / ) these are large, their masses negligible. Thus, is small. also find relationship dark matter be counterintuitive. Surprisingly, range, not only do tend live halos than disk-dominated galaxies, but intermediate (those roughly equal fractions bulge mass) lowest all. Yet, controlling for halo mass, rather vanishes. Based on results, mass—rather momentum—is main driver predicted sequence high range. In fact, our one-fifth counterparts.

On the " Initial " Angular Momentum of Galaxies
Spherical density profiles and specific angular momentum profiles of Dark Matter halos found in cosmological N–body simulations have been measured extensively. The distribution of the total angular momentum of dark matter halos is also used routinely in semi–analytic modeling of the formation of disk galaxies. However, it is unclear whether the initial (i.e. at the time the halo is assembled) a...
متن کاملCoupled mass and angular momentum loss of massive main sequence stars
We investigate the interaction of mass loss and rotation during core hydrogen burning in massive stars. We compute their main sequence evolution assuming rigid rotation, and carry angular momentum as a passive quantity in the stellar interior but incorporate its effect on the stellar mass loss rate. We consider the example of a 60M star assuming various initial rotation rates. We show that rota...
متن کاملThe Origin and Distribution of Angular Momentum in Galaxies
Cold Dark Matter with a large cosmological constant (ΛCDM) appears to fit large scale structure observations well. Of the possible small scale problems, the Central Cusps and Too Many Satellites problems now appear to be at least partly solved, so Angular Momentum has become the most serious remaining CDM problem. There are actually at least two different angular momentum problems: A. Too much ...
متن کاملThe angular momentum of dark halos: merger and accretion effects
We present new results on the angular momentum evolution of dark matter halos. Halos, from N-body simulations, are classified according to their mass growth histories into two categories: the accretion category contains halos whose mass has varied continuously and smoothly, while the merger category contains halos which have undergone sudden and significant mass variations (greater than 1/3 of ...
متن کاملAngular momentum and clustering properties of early dark matter halos
In this paper we study the angular momentum properties of simulated dark matter halos at high redshift that likely host the first stars in the Universe. Calculating the spin distributions of these 10 − 10 M⊙ halos in redshift slices from z = 15 − 6, we find that they are well fit by a log-normal distribution as is found for lower redshift and more massive halos in earlier work. We find that bot...
